Qualifications

To teach in Phoenix Elementary School District #1, you will need to meet certain pre-qualifications. In addition to completing an online application and holding an Arizona Teaching Certificate, you will also need the following:

PROVISIONAL ELEMENTARY K-8

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Proof of citizenship or proof of ability to work in the United States

PROVISIONAL SECONDARY 6-12

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Proof of citizenship or proof of ability to work in the United States

TEACHING INTERN CERTIFICATE

  • Arizona fingerprint clearance card
  • Official Transcripts documenting a Bachelor's or more advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • "Letter of intent to hire" indicating grade-level and content assignment
  • Letter from the institution of higher education indicating candidate is enrolled and assigned a supervisor
  • 3 semester hours or 45 clock hours of SEI (Structured English Immersion)

RECIPROCAL PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE

  • A valid, comparable out-of-state teaching certificate from any other state in the U.S.
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Proof of citizenship or proof of ability to work in the United States

SPECIAL EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Proof of citizenship or proof of ability to work in the United States

FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE CARD

  • All teachers in the state of Arizona must obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance card. Contact the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) at (602) 223-2279 to request an IVP Fingerprint Card Packet.

Substitute Teaching

If you are interested in being a substitute teacher in our district, you must successfully complete the online training for substitutes. Please visit Online Training. Scroll down and choose “Advanced Classroom Management” for $19.95. After passing the course with an 80% or higher, you will receive a Certificate. Present this certificate to us after applying or attach it to your application to be considered for employment.
