JOB SUMMARY:

The Curriculum Alignment Specialist will lead the critical work involved in developing and implementing a
district-wide vision for instruction to improve student outcomes.  This includes, but is not limited to:  carrying out the processes outlined in the Curriculum Management Plan; developing aligned written curriculum with clearly defined learning outcomes; providing professional development and support for the implementation of the written curriculum and instructional model; and serving as a resource to school staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                  

  • Maintains high expectations for student learning that is tightly aligned with the district’s vision and goals.
  • Design, develop and revise K-8 written curriculum guides for designated content areas aligned to the expectations of Phoenix #1 as specified by the Strategic Plan, Curriculum Audit and Curriculum Management Plan
  • Develop and revise written curriculum aligned to AZ standards and assessments with clearly defined student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborates with teams of teachers to design, develop and revise written curriculum guides.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of designated content standards, use of data to inform instruction and instructional strategies for all learners, including the effective mastery learning model.
  • Provides professional development aligned to effective delivery of the written curriculum and district instructional model.
  • Assists and supports staff in the implementation of the tightly-held curriculum guides and instructional model.
  • Assists in the selection of instructional materials aligned to written curriculum.
  • Monitors implementation of the written curriculum and analyzes student achievement data to make recommendations to ensure students success.
  • Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position. Assumes responsibility for attending training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
  • Facilitates district events and district initiatives such as, but not limited to High School Night, Youth Advisory Council, Spelling Bee’s and Science Fairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
:

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an effective K-8 classroom teacher in the designated content area(s)
  • Experience writing curriculum
  • Knowledgeable and functional in technical writing, including consistent and correct use of tense, grammar and spelling
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of designated content standards, use of data and instructional strategies
  • Has leadership experience (coach, mentor, professional developer, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate well and to apply leadership skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree, endorsement, specialization and/or advanced degree in the designated content area(s) (preferred)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to make graphs and databases representative of logistical and assessment information specific to ELL learners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to establish positive professional relationships with Principals, teachers, support staff, parents and community members
  • Knowledge of the Phoenix #1 Curriculum Audit results
  • Knowledge of Arizona Academic Standards and supporting documents
  • Knowledge of the Learning Observation Instrument (LOI)
  • Knowledge of student assessment
  • Experience with software applications, including management software tools and data analysis

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
  • Able to maintain a clear focus relative to: curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Exemplary abilities relative to establishing priorities and making well-thought out decisions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board Policies.
  • Ability to promote harmonious-working relationships with staff, universities, the Arizona Department of Education and outside business representatives.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Occasional exposure to undesirable conditions and minor safety risks.

Workplace accidents are relatively improbable outside of minor injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, or bruises, and infectious diseases. No exposure to chemical health hazards.

Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Sedentary work, which involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.

This position is treated as a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
