K-3 Reading Intervention Specialist- 19/20 SY- Garfield/Whittier
This position is split between Garfield and Whittier Elementary
The Title I K-3 Reading Intervention Specialist is a reading endorsed teacher of reading who works specifically with K-3 students who require strategic and intensive intervention. The focus of the intervention specialist is to develop a student centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in reading. The goal of the intervention specialist is to increase the academic success of students not meeting state reading standards.
The Title I K-3 Reading Interventionist also assists the principal in meeting Title I requirements. The Interventionist assists the principal and leadership team in planning, writing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the progress of the School’s Integrated Action Plan (SIAP). The Interventionist assumes a leadership role in promoting effective reading instruction, meeting the needs of individual students “at risk” in reading, supporting effective family and community engagement through effective communication and working with district administration to ensure Title I compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
- Demonstrates knowledge of Move on When Reading (MOWR) requirements
- Demonstrates a knowledge, or willingness to learn, of Federal Title I (ESSA) Policies and Procedures
- Demonstrates successful experience as a leader with good communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of evidence-based reading research and evidence-based reading instruction specifically related to K-3 students.
- Demonstrates knowledge of direct, explicit and systematic reading instruction that is evidence-based.
- Understands and interprets assessment data such as DIBELS, aimswebPLUS, Galileo and AzMERIT, as well as running records and other informal assessment data, to guide instructional decisions and flexible student grouping.
- Understands how to use technology for instructional planning, i.e. creating reports and using data to plan lessons.
- Understands how to collaboratively plan with K-3 staff to effectively use and implement adopted core reading programs, supplemental materials, and intervention programs.
- Continuously monitor progress of students receiving intervention services, in order to adjust instructional practice and student grouping.
- Design effective intervention lessons.
- Effectively use direct, explicit, systematic reading instruction that is evidence-based.
- Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers regarding alignment between classroom instruction and tiered intervention.
- Communicate student progress to parents and ensure that Move On When Reading (MOWR) Deficiency letters are distributed in a timely manner.
- Use technology for planning instruction and assessment analysis
- Attend district instructional assistant school site sponsored trainings
- Train instructional assistants in effective instructional practice and the components of the intervention program.
- Support the implementation of the school integrated action plan (SIAP) through facilitation and/or participation at professional development, grade level team meetings, staff meetings and collaborative team meetings.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, coaches, and contracted consultants.
- Organizes parent engagement activities that support early literacy development.
- Prepare monthly progress report(s).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
- Arizona Teaching Certificate
- Reading Endorsement
- A minimum of 3 years experience teaching K-3 students
- A proven track record of instructing diverse learners, including English Language Learners and Special Education students, in the area of reading
- Experience working with individual teachers and site based teams preferred
- Experience and training in administering assessments and analyzing data to drive instruction preferred
