PEER Instructional Assistant
PART-TIME, FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE!
The PEER Assistant assists after regular school hours at an Extended Day Enrichment Program for children in grades Kindergarten through Six.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
- Works cooperatively with the full-time PEER Instructional Assistant to provide an enriching experience for children.
- Helps prepare and maintains program materials.
- Assists with students and provides tutoring to small groups.
- Safeguards the health and safety of the children in the program.
- Attends workshops as directed.
- Maintains courteous, working relationships with parents and other adults associated with the program.
- Performs other program-related functions assigned by the Building Principal and/or PEER Director.
- Supervises students.

- Ability to read and interpret written information related to classroom instruction, as provided by teacher.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Prefer one year experience of working in a classroom with children.
- Experience working with recreational or educational programs preferred.
- Minimum of 60+ college semester credits (AA degree) preferred.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bilingual/Spanish speaker preferred.
- Ability to pass a proficiency test in Math,Reading and Grammar (75%).
- Willing to work additional hours during school half-days, if requested.
- Must have patience working with children, learn new skills, flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work well with children, staff, and parents.
- Follows written and oral directions and completes assignments given, is self-directed and works without direct supervision, able to work with individuals and groups of students to support academics and behavior management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally
push, lift or position up to 50 lbs., such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed indoors and sometimes outdoors.

- 4 current letters of recommendation
- Proof of your high school diploma or GED
- If applicable, official sealed college transcripts showing the award of your AA degree or 60-semester credits of 100 or higher courses, grade C or better.
- Proof of a valid DPS fingerprint clearance card. If you do not already have a fingerprint clearance card we have the ability to roll your fingerprints in the HR Department during your new hire appointment.
All PEER positions require an Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. The cost for this card is $67.00. If selected for hire we will assist you in applying for a card to meet this requirement if you do not already have this clearance. DPS charges $67.00 for an IVP fingerprint clearance card, payable to the Department of Public Safety, via a cashiers check or money order at the time your prints are rolled.
